Sometimes we take a wrong turn in life, and it throws us for
a loop. Our flight, fight or freeze response takes over and depending on which
one is strongest, we react by running away, fighting the change or getting
stuck (freezing) and taking no action.
This is normal for all of us. We’re
human and this response is baked into us to protect us from danger.
But, what if we didn’t react with one of these responses? What if, instead we reacted like our GPS does
and re-route ourselves. After all, when
we make a wrong turn while driving, our GPS recalculates our trip and helps us
get to our destination another way. We still
make progress and get where we wanted to go.
It just happened by a different method.
We can do this for ourselves too when we feel we’ve gotten
off track. Something as simple as reframing the situation and looking at it
differently can change our internal response and help us take a step
forward. And, as I’ve mentioned before,
those small steps are powerful. Each one leads us to a new place and if we keep
going, we achieve our goal. It may not
happen quickly, but we can do it. Sometimes, though, we need some help to figure
out how to reframe the situation.

flight, fight or freeze response, Aha Moments Coaching is here to help. Find me
