Humans need more than that to give them the power and freedom to excel.
People need to know that you will BE for them even when they do not do well.
That your presence isn’t conditional on results.
That you see the person before the title.
During a recent coaching session, my coachee paused and asked, almost in disbelief:
“You mean it’s okay to fail sometimes?”
It struck me again how rarely we hear that at work.
How rare it is to feel truly safe to question, to learn, to stumble.
Leadership isn’t only about pushing for better KPIs or bigger numbers.
It’s about creating space where someone feels seen and supported, not only when they shine, but especially when they don’t.
Because real growth doesn’t come from fear.
It comes from knowing you’re allowed to be human.
