We all lack motivation sometimes. It’s normal. So, how can you motivate yourself to get
something done? Start small. Take one step.
I worked with someone who felt that they procrastinated and
were lazy because of it. We worked together on rebuilding their self-image, and
I helped them realize that they were doing what they needed to do in support of
themselves at that time. We worked on
taking small steps and changing how they saw themselves. And, it worked. By the end of our program, they realized they
had changed from where they were when we started, and one of the simplest
things we did was write to-do lists.
What helped even more was adding the things they did that weren’t on the
list to start. By seeing it written down
and seeing items crossed off, they realized that they were getting
things done, and seeing that helped motivate them to keep going and do
more. The other thing that helped build
that motivation was having someone to hold them accountable but be supportive
when something got it the way.
