The holiday season is magical, isn’t it? Twinkling lights, cozy nights, and the joy of giving. But let’s be honest—sometimes, in the c...
Right now, you may be feeling stressed, worried, or afraid
because of everything that is going on in the United States. And those feelings can be hard to deal with. They
come at you at times when you’re not ready to face them or deal with them. They
overwhelm you so you freeze up and can’t seem to manage them. You are not alone. Many of us are experiencing the same thing.
So, what can you do to help yourself better manage that overwhelming
sense that freezes you and makes you want to hide? When you feel that moment of
freezing, talk to yourself and ask, “what’s one small thing I can do to get
moving?” Maybe you need to take a few deep breaths to ground yourself. Maybe
you need to go for a walk and get away from whatever is stressing you out. Maybe you need to put down your phone and
stop doom scrolling. Whatever it is, taking
some kind of action will help you regain some of your power. Do that one small thing and then do another
one. As you make progress, you’ll feel
less overwhelmed.
Now, what if it’s fear that is freezing you up? How can you help yourself face that? Well,
here’s another quick tip. Start by defining what it is that you’re afraid of. Be very specific. Don’t just say something
general like, “I’m afraid the U.S. will fall apart.” What do you think will
stop working? Next, think about how this thing happening will affect you, and
then decide whether or not you can prevent it from happening or if you can’t
prevent it, can you fix it? Thinking
through things this way give you that sense of power back because you’re facing
something and making it manageable. It’s not a giant, overwhelming problem anymore.
By narrowing the focus, you give yourself more control of yourself and your
situation.
I know, this all sounds easy, and it can be if you put some
work into it for yourself. But, sometimes you need that person to talk things
through with, and that’s where Aha Moments Coaching can help. I will listen to your concerns; we’ll talk
through them together, and we’ll come up with small steps that will help you
reclaim your sense of power over that freeze instinct.
