I’m full of gratitude. I’m grateful for the people in my life who
love and support me. I’m grateful for
the ability to go on vacation and simply get away from all the stresses in my
life, and I’m grateful to myself for realizing that I needed to get
away even though I’m not working yet.
You might be thinking “You’re grateful to yourself? How does
that work? Isn’t that a little self-serving?” One might think so, but really,
most of the time we are our own harshest critics.
We expect more from ourselves than we would from someone else in the
same position. When we grant ourselves space to do the things we need to do for
ourselves, we are being kind, and that is something to be grateful for. I’m grateful for having gone through this
coaching program so that I can see now that things I have done in the past were
the ways I protected myself during tough times. I’ve been able to see that I no
longer need those coping methods and am now a different person.
So, how does that translate to self-gratitude? Well, I’m grateful I protected myself with those
coping mechanisms. They’re what helped
me get through my days, weeks, months and years. But now I don’t need them
anymore. It’s great to know they were there and will be there again if I need
them, but for now at least, I’ve moved on.
Have you ever thanked yourself? Have you looked at your behaviors to see how
they helped you? It’s an interesting and
enlightening experience that I recommend wholeheartedly.
